How to stop the MacBook edge digging into your wrist
This guide is ordered the way an honest friend would give it — free fixes first, cheap fixes second, the designed fix last. Try them in order.
Disclosure — Snappalm, the last item, is the product behind this page. Everything above it costs less and is worth trying first if you're not sure how much the edge bothers you.
Free fixes (start here tonight)
1. Bring the machine closer. The most-repeated free advice in r/macbookpro — pull the laptop toward you so your wrists carry less weight and your palms land behind the lip instead of on it. Helps at a desk, does little on a lap.
2. Float your wrists while typing. Touch-typist posture keeps palms off the chassis entirely. It genuinely works, and it lasts exactly as long as your discipline does — every thread has someone admitting their wrists drop back down the minute they start thinking about the actual work.
3. Raise your chair or lower the desk. Changing the approach angle changes where the lip meets your arm. Free, worth two minutes of experimentation.
4. The towel. Folded under the wrists, community-certified since at least 2011. Works fine, photographs terribly, slides off your lap.
Cheap fixes ($8–26)
5. Hockey tape on the edge. The r/macbookpro budget classic. Cushions the lip for $8, leaves adhesive residue, looks like what it is.
6. Gel wrist rest. Fine at a desk, absorbs sweat over time ("sweat city"), useless on a couch — and the couch is where the edge bites hardest.
7. Adhesive edge strip. The made-for-purpose strip along the lip. Real product, decent reviews, two caveats from the community — it's stuck to your chassis, and it softens the lip without giving your palms anywhere to rest.
The designed fix
8. A snap-on palm rest. Snappalm — matte-black, industrial-grade TPU, snaps onto the 14″ or 16″ MacBook Pro (2021 and newer) chassis with tension-fitted snap geometry. No adhesive anywhere near your laptop; it lifts off clean in a second and folds flat to 9.5 mm for the bag. The elevated pads put a cushioned surface under your palms on a desk or a lap, and the TPU shields the aluminum from the sweat corrosion that stains dark finishes. Designed & manufactured in Chicago, IL. Patent pending. Lifetime warranty, free US shipping, 14-day money-back. $74.99 while the Founders 100 run lasts, then $99.99.
The honest sequencing
If fixes 1–4 solve it for you, stop there and spend nothing — plenty of people posture their way out of the problem. The threads exist because most people don't stay fixed. The towel migrates, the wrists drop, the tape peels, and eventually someone posts a photo of a sander next to their MacBook. If you've cycled the free list twice, you're not lacking discipline, you're lacking hardware — pick the fix you won't have to think about again.
